3 times tonight school was mentioned.
Audrey said the school kids flocked around Michaels van on their way home from school.
Gail said Kylie would want her to pick Max up from school.
Leanne said she would check on Simons homework.

The kids in this area have been off for weeks.

Continuity St it's not!
Our kids went back on Wednesday of this week, so perhaps they have the same School holidays as Scotland

Oh, Mazie, that's interesting, here in the South East we are half way through, 3 weeks done, 3 more to go.
Time is, of necesity, an illusion in any soap that's not broadcast 7 days per week. For example, each episode of a soap might cover the events of a single day. If a soap is only transmitted twice per week that means that over the period of a month (in the real world) events have only moved on by about 8 days in the soap. However if some episodes of the soap only recount what occurs during the daytime, with the next episode telling viewers what happens that evening, a soap might have only moved on by a few days over the course of a (real) month.

So scriptwriters tend to avoid specific references to time and just assume that every day is a 'standard' one. (You can watch some soaps for months and find that people are going to work every day and that weekends never seem to happen!).

Of course, there's one big exception to the 'time free zone' of soaps. Where would Eastenders be, for example, without a major event occurring on Christmas Day?

Was it in Crossroads that a character got pregnant in the storyline, then four months later the actress playing her did likewise and they had a 13-month gestation period? Nobody seemed to notice.
.

well there are no school holidays in Gaza ( is that near ?)
because as the protester in Jerusalem chanted....

[in the news a few weeks ago... am I allowed political comments on a media thread / ]
Why does no-one in Coronation Street, Emmerdale or Eastenders ever utter the word "benefits". No-one seems to be in receipt of Jobseekers/ESA.

probably ...... consdering Benny took 5 years to change a washer....
I would think that since the script is written in advance (and recording itself is usually a few weeks ahead of transmission), these things get overlooked. If they have a good script editor on board, they should pick up on these things - the transmission dates are known in advance. I guess most times the writers want an excuse not to have the child actors in any scenes, and saying they are at school is (in the usual run of things) plausible.
