I am receiving requests from Microsoft to run a search for internet viruses etc.

I have EVG protection. My questions are:- Is it necessary to run run this scan or am I entering a costly enterprise?
In any event, can any tell me how to get rid of this nuisance.

>>>I am receiving requests from Microsoft

I'm prepared to bet that those messages have nothing to do with Microsoft! Clicking the link offered will probably do something really nasty to your computer.

However the malware that's generating the false message should be easy to eliminate. Download, install and run the free version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:
https://www.malwarebytes.org/antimalware/
(NB: When installing it, take care to remove the tick which will appear next to an option to take a free trial of the 'Premium' version). Don't be surprised if a scan takes ages to run. (That's normal). When malware is identified, select the option to 'Quarantine' it.
I may regret it, but I shall decline that bet, thanks.
