Why Do People Feed Other Peoples Cats?

Oh I am so annoyed. For weeks now our cat has been off her food. I've been trying to tempt her with her favourite things but just the odd half-hearted crunch or licking off of gravy from her whiskas lick and chew. She's getting on a bit and although not losing weight looked a bit dull in her coat so I took her to the Vets and she checked out ok. The vet asked if someone else could have been feeding her -this never crossed my mind so she suggested writing 'do not feed' on her collar. I did that a couple of days ago and bingo -she's started eating her food again. Why oh why do people feel the need to feed random cats? Its not like she looks like a stray , she's plumpish, she has a collar and a tag with her name and my mobile number on it. For heavens sake I wish people would mind their own business.

I fed a cat a sausage this week.

In all fairness the shopkeeper said it'd been hanging about for days.

Because that pathetic mewling is extremely hard to ignore and tugs at your heartstrings, and the little gits know that and exploit it for all it's worth.

She might be getting into another house that has cats via a catflap? Its not always intentional!
Cats have been known to 'enter' other people's houses and steal the resident cat's food. Sometimes this goes on for some time before anybody realises.

Either that or your cat has a human that she has been able to manipulate into feeding her. They are devious little ***********

Booold is right. A local cat got into my house on a daily basis. My cat would sit and watch it eat his food.
I'd be peed off it was mine but there again a perfectly cared for local cat is constantly coming in my house and nicking my cats food when I leave the door open.

So why do they meow from birth...or within a few days?

ok -if my cat got lost all the person finding her would hopefully ring the number on her collar. Secondly, the fact I wrote 'do not feed' on her collar and she stopped getting food immediately would indicate she had been fed intentionally, and thirdly if you have not got an animal don't feed other peoples! Would any childless couple grab a kiddie off the street to give it a slap up meal?
I've got 2 cats near me and the owner (who is a bit of a drinker) doesn't feed them much, so the cats scrounge from everybody in the street. One of them even stole a piece of bread from a neighbour's kitchen not so long ago. People who can't look after their animals shouldn't have them. So it's not always a case of people minding their own business, but a case of not wanting to see skinny cats who are desperate for food.

spathyfillum you obviously don't have cats. They have many different miouxs to mean different things.
Don't think that's true, lions and tigers ets all cry and purr (or equivalent) in the wild.
Errrrrrrrr animals are not human. They scavage and rip binbags open, regardless of how well fed they are.

My cat doesn't have a collar, they can be dangerous!!

Ummmm I hope the cat you fed a sausage roll to does not have health problems or on a restricted diet. Fair enough if it looked like a stray but that's not the point I was making, my cat does not look like a stray and no one has the right to feed her but me or my family.

Ummmm if you go to ay reputable pet shop you can get safety collars that snap if the cat gets caught. I know they work because I get through about 4 or five a year.
If you have visitors come to your home do you not offer them something to eat and drink?
A neighbour of ours is fed up with the local cats coming into her house whenever she leaves the front door open. It's probably due to the fact that she feeds them. Feed a cat once and it will hang around for years.
\\\Would any childless couple grab a kiddie off the street to give it a slap up meal?\\\

LOL.....give it a slap may be more appropriate.

\\\For heavens sake I wish people would mind their own business.\\

I agree Retro, but they mean well......I suppose.

Dont let them roam if you dont want them feeding elsewhere
