I know that Steve Wright has an ego the size of Saturn - "Loving the show...", the fact that he calls his show 'The Big Show', all that nonsense, but ...
why does he not back-announce records he is playing?
As a national conduit to the nation for new music, is it not part of his rresponsibility to tell people what they are hearing if it is new?
On the way back from the dentist, I heard two songs new to me, of which I remain ignorant, beacuse 'Wrighty' chose not to bother himself with advising me what they were called.
I think as a Public Service broadcaster, he should pay a little more attention to details like the music he plays, and a little less to reading out how everyone who writes in '... loves the show ... '.
I agree, Andy - he's an overblown presenter & not as clever as he thinks he is.
His daily "Oldies" section has gone from 45 mins to 25 - more time to spout nonsense & as you say, still give no information.
I emailed the show a couple of years ago to complain about his "style" & lack of information about the tracks played - did I get a reply? Did I heck...
I agree. Not like his R2 colleague, Bob Harris, who has a website with a full playlist on his Wed and Sun programmes. This details artiste, track title, album title and label info!
Sorry, should have said Thurs. Harris always announces the songs and puts a lot of effort into the construction of his programmes. Very sincere and passionate about music.
When it comes to giving information about records I don't think you can beat Keith Skues, a good all round knowledge and even c o c k s up every now and again just to prove he is human. Just my opinion.
Elina - "That would do my head in andy. If I hear something I really love I like to know what the track is!"
Me too!
Another gross offender was Simon (Actor Manager Darling!) Bates. and he used to play a record I liked twice in succession for days, and never told me what it was!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
