The Radio Times listings from 1923 to 2009 are now available (the site seems to be a bit slow at present, possibly with some bugs)

Thanks for that bibble. Yes, I'll have a look.
In those days nearly every household took the Radio Times, as newspapers didn't print listings. As soon as our local paper started printing listings my mother cancelled the RT.
I remember when you needed to buy a tv and a radio times - now its just the one and the bumper issue has become part of the build up to Christmas - as does the M&S advert
Lets hope its a good one
I'm one of the few people buying the Radio Times every week but have to say, it's only for the crossword.
we get it every week for the programme listings. Dropped the TV Times, though.
ITV came late to the north east (1959). What is now the TV Times was called The Viewer when it first came out. It was frequently advertised on TV with the bass singer Owen Brannigan singing, to the tune of The Blaydon Races:

"Oh, me lads, you've got to get The Viewer,
You'll never be late for channel 8 if you buy The Viewer..."
