Have been watching the re-runs of Friends on Channel 4 in the mornings and yesterday and today I noticed Phoebe eating lasagne and pizza. Was she not a vegetarian in the beggining? Or did the story writers forget about it? When did she become a vegetarian?

She was actually a vegan in the beginning and then I noticed without explanation her drinking milk and wearing leather trousers.  I seem to recall they engineered some ridiculous storyline to have her eat meat while she was pregnant with the triplets, and then perhaps they just left it at that.  I wasn't such an avid watcher of the show by that stage.

no it definitely wasn't vegetarian lasagne because that's the reason Monica got stuck with 12 of them as she made meat ones when her auntie wanted vegetarian

1998: Joey was Phoebe's temporary vegetarian!  While Phoebe was providing a "surrogate womb" for her brother and his wife's babies, she began to experience cravings for meat.  Distressed at the thought of her cravings causing cows to be killed, Joey gallantly offered to be a veggie throughout the remainder of her pregnancy, so that at least no MORE cows would be killed from her cravings.  "You can have my cows," he said.

In another episode (1999):

Phoebe: A woman just handed me a coupon for steak and lobster for only 99 cents.

Monica: You don't eat animals.

Phoebe: For 99 cents I'd eat you.

and....(2001/2002)

Phoebe: I don't eat meat.

Dr. Green: It's not meat, it's chicken.

Phoebe: Yeah, well, I don't eat that either.

Perhaps the writers got lazy, but generally she was considered TV's most famous veggie for quite some time.

Perhaps I should add the lyrics to Phoebe's song during the blackout:  "New York City has no power, and the milk is getting sour, but to me it is not scary, cos I stay away from dairy."  This declaration would still be at odds with her eating pizza and lasagne, although I don't actually recall her eating the lasagnes Monica made in that episode. (I was still a fan at that time.)

It's a TV comedy show guys, it is not real, there aren't really 6 people living in New York that crazy..........except Joey of course, we all know he is real, and sexy, but he has moved to LA now, so that makes it more real.
