Because the Second World War was so long ago, and so much has changed since, it is easy to fall into an assumption that only the people of that generation would step up to the mark, as did this wonderful lady and many like her.
But I believe inherently in the goodness of the human spirit, and I am sure that if the circumstances ever recurred, heaven forbid, then there would be sufficient people of sufficient character to step up and do what was needed.

As they say,Come the hour,Come the man/woman.I know the young people of today come in for a lot flak,but you only have to look at the men and women of the armed forces who have served in places like Afghanistan or the people who have volunteered to to go to Africa to help deal with the Ebola to see that the spirit is still there should we ever need it.

Yes. Every generation has brave people in it. Sometimes they have an opportunity to show their mettle, though they mightn't think of themselves as brave or heroes while doing so, while in peaceful times they just get on with their lives.
