I'm sorry, but I don't consider Joanie worthy of such an honour, especially when the truly incredible career of Petula Clark is yet to be properly recognised. What do you think?
Pet Clarke has been lost in France for decades; she's done very little recently apart from Jools Holland once, I think. Comparatively speaking, Joan's still in the spotlight. I saw her in a 60s film the other day and I'd forgotten how beautiful she was, and a good actress too.
I think she thoroughly deserves it, been going for years, has put up with a load of stick and come out the other side, has made it clear she is thoroughly proud of being British and is happy to laugh at herself (you're a right diva hen you're hungry).
Petula Clark has lived in France since she was a child, I only know her for Downtown
Often a celebrity is a figurehead for a charity, on the basis that their fans will think "if X feels strong about that charity, then I ought to support it too".
jordyboy -when you donate to charity -however much- the amount you donate can be claimed as a 'expense'. If she donated £5000 to charity then £5000 of her hard earned cash would not be liable to Tax. I really can't see what is wrong with that as the Charity benefits and so does the donor. As for Joan Collins -she is a gem a truly super -star capable of playing a multitudes of different parts and not a Diva. I remember seeing her as a wicked witch in Hansel and Gretel she made for TV, very very good. She deserves a dame hood.
Joan Collins has lived in Los Angeles most of her life, at least Petula was in Europe. How do you know Petula hasn't done masses of charity work too? As a child she entertained troops fighting in WW2
"A knighthood, and the female equivalent, a damehood, is an award given by The Queen to an individual for a major, long-term, contribution in any activity, usually at a national or international level. It is one of the highest possible honours that can be received by an individual."
