today I watched a tv movie that I taped yesterday called Diverted with David Suchet, when the 911 disaster struck all planes on their way to NYC were diverted some 6,600 passengers went to Gander in New Foundland.
The good citizens there were asked to help & they provided food, clothes, blankets towels etc for the stranded passengers they took them home to use their showers let them phone home etc for 4 days until their planes could fly again what marvellous people these Gander citizens were yet this is the first time I knew all this. I don't know what recognition they got for their selfless acts ? but they were amazingly generous with their help.
Did anyone else watch this ?

Right,on checking my about to be dumped christmas/new year mag, it was shown on Freeview's True Entertainment channel 61,at 5 on new year's eve. They repeat their schedules all the time,so I'll be on the look out for this one Dee. Thanx for highlighting it,like you I have never heard of this Gander humaniterian act.
I haven’t seen the film, but planes were diverted to several Canadian airports on 9/11 – my friend was on one diverted to Moncton and has nothing but praise for the Canadian people who took her into their home for four days. Her flight was met by Red Cross workers who, since luggage wasn’t unloaded, distributed clothing and toiletries to the passengers. She’s a big lady and found it highly amusing that knickers in her size could not be provided. She was given men’s pants! The Canadians - and the Red Cross - did an amazing job on that terrible day. All credit to them.
