Fao Stuey I Have A Clock Question...
15 Answers
Hope you see this Stuey(or any other horologists) I bought a metamec clock on Sunday, German quartz movement battery operated. Tried with a battery and it wouldn't work so took it to bits gave it a bit of a clean, put it back together and hey presto its working like a gud un but a little bit too fast. Ok this is a challenge bear with: Whilst 'fiddling' I moved a sliver of metal that was attached around a coil, designed to slide around the coil from left to right. Is this what calibrates the time? Its gaining around 1 minute per hour but I don't want to fiddle any further in case I break it. Thanks!

12 Red Bulls on their way. Think I've sorted it,I moved the lever thing on the coil spring and have been watching it against the clock on the PC and its spot on at the moment. I'm not clever enough posting pics but when it goes on Ebay I'll send you the link. I'm pretty pleased with myself getting it going it was a buy for £1.50 at a garage sale and now its working with a bit of TLC I should get around £50. The last metamec I sold for £145 but it was a starburst design.

Sorry have just got back to AB -rush on in the shop -how inconvenient lol! Your jug would have had a bowl underneath and is most likely Early Victorian before 1850. Canadian prices a lot different from UK but at auction here in UK without the bowl probably £20-£30 unless a known maker stamp to base.
Here is one post that I copied from the NAWCC site regarding those clocks. You may be interested in joining it. There are people from all over the world on it, including quite a few from the UK:
"Is this a Metamec?? (RE: Willie X)
Chris:
I am not sure whereabouts in the world you are but does Midlands refer to the midlands in UK? If so, try to borrow a copy of this book from you local library:
BIRD, Clifford
METAMEC, The Clockmaker Dereham
published by Antiquarian Horological Society, 2003
ISBN No. 0901180408
This book has a huge number of Metamec clocks illustrated, with dates and prices. If you are in US, maybe the NAWCC library can help.
Hope this helps.
