Mobile Phone Not Receiving Text Or Calls Intermittently

Good morning ABs. I am seeking advice and/or thoughts on my problem with my mobile. I have a Windows Lumia Nokia 925 and my network is O2. Intermittently I do not receive text messages and phone calls. I only become aware when one of those trying to contact me phones my landline to tell me. If I then shut down phone and back on again the texts will filter through. If I wasn't contacted by landline I would never know. Is this a networking problem or is my phone come to its end? Has anyone any experience of this before? Thank you for your help. As always I appreciate your input.

You're not just in a weak signal zone, are you?

Phone loses weak signal, then you reboot the phone so it has a fresh hunt for signal, manages to find one, and all your texts suddenly arrive.

Thanks joggerjayne. Signal is normally ok but maybe travelling about during the day I am in and out of weak signals. Maybe this causes the phone to "lock up" and when I reboot it releases. Certainly an idea and thanks for that. Perhaps I should reboot when I get home every evening.

Handsets should periodically try to connect to a network and report-in its location, so that incoming calls can be directed to the right place. I'm surprised that having lost connection it doesn't re-establish itself fairly soon after getting back into a good reception area. I would guess the period between tries would extend the number of failed attempts it gets (to save battery) but it shouldn't really need a reboot.

Thanks OG and that makes sense. I thought myself that it should automatically reconnect. As I have only been getting my problem recently it would suggest that it was reconnecting previously. Makes me think that I might have a problem. Phone possibly just useless.
