Did You Find Corrie Weird Tonight?

It felt strange hearing them organising Deirdre's birthday party. I wonder how difficult it would be for them to act cheerful about it knowing Deirdre (Ann Kirkbride) is no longer with us.

I've always found Corrie and indeed most soaps they give a snapshot of the worst aspects of "life" which the more impressionable accept as real. I've seen friends colleagues hopefully unconsciously acting out behaviour which is pure soap. Maybe time it's time we pensioner them off and returned to intelligent entertainment. Sorry if I'm ranting.

Ukbod2015. Death Is, the worst aspect of life. What would you have them do? Never mention Deidre again and wipe out the 40 odd years of commitment that Anne Kirkbride gave to the programme??

The cast has said that it was very hard to do but, she would have wanted it that way.

Hi Chrissa, if this is how Anne Kirkbride would have wanted it then that's ok but personally I would have preferred that they mentioned it just after she passed away and more low key instead of talking about having a party and buying her presents.They even had the young actress who plays Amy acting like 'Deirdre' was still there.I didn't enjoy watching it at all. x

So how do they say she has died? Plane crash on the way home? Or heart attack while waiting to go through customs? Be bit naff if they are waiting in the pub for her to arrive and Ken turns up with the news that she is dead.

I think they say it was a sudden brain hemorrhage as she was leaving to come home.

these episodes are made around 8 weeks in advance of transmission,thought every one knew that !

I think the friend with whom she had been staying turns up at the pub to tell them she died that morning.

Ann Kirkbride died in January. They have left it this long to write her character out to allow her family, the cast and crew to get over her sudden death.

Was the birthday thing just to add more puke to the story line .Rip Anne .Soaps are all washed up

I thought it was handled very well and I know it was difficult for the cast because I read an interview by William Roache, but they all wanted to do it for her. I think when the news comes out that she is dead, they will celebrate her life in the pub where they were going to hold her birthday party. A fitting tribute imo and I think it will be very moving.

I think they should avoid all situations like this by acting out every episode live on TV. That will sort out who can and can't act!
