A few weeks back, we had a discussion on these pages about 'coincidence bets'. Well, here's another for you. In the 3.10 at Haydock, today, 2 of the runners, who have no connection with each other, whatsoever, in terms of ownership, trainer, etc, are called Seve and................wait for it...............Ballesteros! That is what i call a coincidence. This will be the first time the two have raced against each other and, off joint bottom weight, both have each way claims. But rather than back one, or both, each way, i have done a small stakes reverse forecast which, if successful, would prove quite lucrative given their prices of around 14/1.

I'd be interested to know what odds you got for that bet, if you win. (Which you won't). Coincidence betting might look like the gods are smiling on you, but it rarely works out like that. Good luck, anyway. I do hope you win.

The odds, Cloverjo, are in the 'Lap of the Gods' and are determined by the SP of both horses - but if they were to finish 1 & 2 @ the current prices, i would expect the CSF to pay around £175 upward. And i do not believe the gods are smiling on me - the operative 2 words in my post are 'small stakes'. It is a mug bet, but i'm not a total mug:-)
Question Author
Just been informed by Channel 4 Racing that the two were actually bred by the same person and are, in fact, half brothers. So there is a connection, after all.

Paul Hanagan won on Malja. Now all he has to do is win on Adaay, Tawwaaq and Dawn Missile and i'll be a very happy chappy:-)
You ended up in a 'bunker' with those two then
Question Author
They were there or thereabouts, Dave, but as i said earlier, if my man Hanagan is truly on form today, i won't even remember their names come midnight:-)
Ken They were 11th and 12th out of 16, not really thereabouts!!
Question Author
Dave, they were there or thereabouts for much of the race and were eased when their chances disappeared. Official summary - Ballesteros; 'led, ridden and headed 1f out, weakened final furlong'. Seve; 'prominent, ridden 2f out, weakened final furlong'. Remember, i wasn't tipping them, i was ,merely poointing out the coincidence. I actually had the winner of the race in a lucky 15 - sadly on it's own.
