Are TV programmes like 'Embarrassing Bodies' and 'GP's Behind Closed Doors' fake? How do they work? A person has a very personal problem and he or she has the option of telling the nation and showing his or her private parts! How much are they paid for doing this? I can't make any sense of it. If I had something wrong 'downstairs', I'd need half a million pounds to expose myself on TV. That might compensate for the real risk of a family member, friend or your boss seeing the programme. You would never live it down and they would never forget it! How can a patient walk into a doctor's surgery and act normal in front of TV cameras, pretending they are not there. How is 'going to the doctor' even entertainment at all?

'fame' at any price seems to be the thing these days -why do people show themselves up on shows like Jeremy Kyle? I honestly don't know how they can look people in the eye after opening their legs or showing people their bum holes on National TV. I'm not a prude I have no inhibitions about nudity or going to the doctors and discussing 'intimate' things - just there...

Can't be fake really since one sees the problem they claim to have. Different folk have different hang-ups. Some don't see a problem with exposing parts others are self conscious about. (Consider some cultures' obsession with covering up.) Indeed some folk may even get something out of showing their bits off. But not for you then ?
BTW it's an "informative" type of programme. I guess you could call it entertainment but hardly the same thing as your usual variety show. Compare with the news programme; would you call that entertainment ?
I don't watch programmes like these, but OH does so I see bits of them. Judging by the quality of the film, it usually looks like a "fly on the wall" type camera, rather than a full crew, so perhaps people feel less inhibited about showing their bits. Or perhaps they're just desperate to be on telly in any way.
I think the biggest reason people go on embarrassing bodies is to get access to surgeries and treatments they have probably been refused on the NHS, nothing wrong with this. I think getting their lives back outweighs the embarrassment of being on the show.

People go on JK for free lie detectors, DNA tests and a few nights in a hotel. Oh...and they get paid.
They don't get paid on the JK show, that would affect their benefits. They get reasonable expenses and lots of free booze
yes Ummmmm but they don't have to show their bits off on the JK show do they?
Depends on how the cat fight goes, surely ?
Not that I watch that sort of human degradation show, can't stand it.

Why do they not pay their parents or some other relative as then they could keep their amateur welfare claimant status.
I suppose for many it's the last resort. Treatment that isn't available to them on the NHS.
There are some people who do anything to get on tv, like this awful couple.

He showed his bottom on Embarrassing Bodies.
I remember one guy on Embarrassing Bodies who had a problem with his scalp. It turned out that he'd been scratching his *** and then his head, which led to a rather nasty result. Why would he agree with that being shown if not to just get on telly?
Ummmm one person was having a hemorrhoid removed from his bum on TV- I'm sure this is available on the NHS -Embarassing bodies is not all about cosmetic surgery
cloverjo -thanks for that one - brain bleach............
Retrochic, I think that was Graham from the link who displayed his piles on EB.
15 mins of fame at any cost, that's why Jeremy Kyle has a show.
There was an actor on there showing his man bits to Dr Pixie. He is a regular in the audience on Big Brothers Bit on the Side. Also a stallholder on Eastenders.

Another woman extra actress was also on there with legs akimbo.
Sammy, that's Graham from the link, too
That most be the most flexible extra actress I've ever heard of !
Tarser, a nightmare you just can't help watch ... I saw an episode where a lady told us all she had a problem with a ... fat fanny .... nearly choked on my coffee with laughter. Why the hell would you want to be known forever to everyone as ff ?? .....
