Film Title?

Saw film around 1970's starring Gene Hackman, which was I think based in Atlantic City or similar, had a later scene on a beach with a young (girlfriend/daughter?) girl cutting off her hair beside a fire. Also she sang God Bless America at some point on a deserted stage. No particular reason for me to know, but curious! Was a good film, but nobody I know seems to know it! Any suggestions??

Thanks for your link Buenchico, no luck, beginning to think I imagined it - perhaps it wasn't Hackman, but I feel sure it was - I actually saw it in Bolivia, sub-titled. But thanks...
