Webbo's post about Game of Thrones has prompted me to ask if anyone else is enjoying this Danish invasion series? Not usually my thing but I'm hooked and Uhtred becomes more gorgeous with every episode..
I haven't watched game of thrones but have just asked OH who watches both and he said no in that G of T is all fantasy whereas the Last Kingdom is loosely historical fact about the the Danish invasion and Alfred the Great. There are similarities in that they are both gritty with plenty of sex and violence :-)
GOT is much, much more graphic in both the sex scenes and violence - it's very, very bloodthirtsy and has dragons, magic and demons etc. I think you either love it or hate it.
Personally I love these kinds of programmes so am thoroughly enjoying The Last Kingdom - it's terrific.
Having missed the first episode I bought the book so as to understand the second episode. The book however bore so little resemblance to the episode that I had seen that I carried on reading it and have just finished the second book in the series. I think that the tv version will be an anticlimax if I watch it on catchup tv
