I want to record something on Sky that's not on for 2 weeks but the planner doesn't go any further than 7 days. Surely that can't be right ? (I'll be away)

The Manual Recording option is on the very top menu on the TV Guide, Prudie. It’s about 5 to the right next to “Parental Control”. Unfortunately it too only allows you to set up to seven days in advance, but you can use the “repeat” option as I said. To record on 29/30/31 you will have to set a programme for the same time and channel on 22/23/24 and repeat them weekly. Don't forget to allow a few minutes either side of the advertised times.
Have you considered using the “series repeat” option (assuming UC is on no more than seven days before you go away).

Then how do you record your TV programmes, keep your food cool in the fridge and frozen in the freezer, keep your burglar alarm on, set your lights to come on after dark to make the burglars think you're in when you're actually in the Caribbean, keep your boiler running so that it can come on for half an hour in the night to stop your pipes freezing etc. etc ???
Prudie, as said earlier, You could get them on Catch Up or On Demand when you get home, and not have any worries.

Do houses still get frozen pipes, I haven't had one in 30/40 odd years?

Assuming you have access to the internet while you're away, when you get to within 7 days of the programme being on, log on to sky.com on the internet. Click on "Find & Watch TV", then click on TV Guide. That will give you a screenful of programme listings - channels on the left, 7 days at the top with times below. Click on the relevant day and find the programme you want (obviously you'll have to scroll down the screen and possibly scroll right). Click on the programme. On the pop up, hover over the word "record" and you'll get an option to record once or record series. Click whichever you want. Done. Simple. You can practice while you're at home. If you have 2 sky boxes, you need to make sure it records to the right box.

Must be Global Warming!!! :-)
Their website doesn’t work, angie. Just tried it. Got a nice blank blue screen with “Now” “Today” “Friday” “Saturday” etc. across the top and that’s it. Only one programme visible (“Tipping Point” – on now). Did manage to record that as you suggested so it’s a great idea. It just doesn’t work. None of the days across the top seem to do anything.
That was from my laptop. Tried accessing via my tablet. Click on “Find & Watch TV”. Just get a selection of rubbish for options (e.g. “Fungus the Bogeyman”; “Trollied A Christmas Carol”). No options to see a programme schedule.
