Ladies Gucci Wrist Watch

I have a watch about 12 years old. I don't remember the model - but it is fold with a white and black rimmed face and black on the reverse. Until now I have always had the battery changed at the same place. However I have recently moved and my cousin - who apparently changes the family's batteries(!) offered to do mine. However, after replacing the battery the back covering bit won't seem to fit on. Does anyone know of any quirks in getting this to fit! I can only think that that it has got out of true when removing but it all looks ok. Now I have a watch that is going fine but can't fit on the back piece.

If the back has a cutout for the winder make sure that is properly aligned then press the back on. It may need more pressure than you can exert with you fingers so put the watch face down on a towel to distribute the pressure evenly on the face and place something flat (like a coaster) on it and press down with the heel of your palm.

Presumably this isn't a "screw" off/on watch back, because if he got it off it would be easy to get it back on. So, it's going to be a lever off / press on back...these can be difficult to remove, and VERY difficult to replace. There is a special tool for this job....slightly different designs but all exert a lot of pressure in the right place....this is just one type.....

It's also possible that when the back was removed a o-ring gasket got lost. If that is the case, pardon the pun, the back will not sit properly onto the case.

Quite often it's easier to replace the back "tilted". Make sure the cut-out is lined up with the stem; seat the opposite side of the back into the case; then exert pressure with your thumbs sliding towards the stem side...Hope that makes sense.

Thanks for the various answers, however, there is no cut out for the winder and definitely no O ring. It appears to just press on (there is a very narrow/rim to fit on. It seems to click on in on one side (doesn't make any difference which side) but then won't fit onto the other side. Oh dear!

You don't want to go near Gucci, who have no idea how watches work. They just commission a Swiss gnome to design it for them. Watchmaker who don't do it themselves send the things to Birminghams Jewellery Quarter for repair.

Dogsbody2, you'll find that's the case with the majority of "non-high end" watches. The name on the dial has absolutely no connection with the manufacture of the movements and cases.

Also, I should add, you don't take a watch or clock to a jeweler to be repaired: you take it to a qualified watch/clock maker. The jeweler will say that they can get it fixed; however, they send it to a watch maker to fix, and then you're paying the watch makers charge plus the jeweler's commission.

Many thanks one and all - yes it looks like a search for a watchmaker/jeweller - although not easy to find these days, particularly on Teesside where I'm now living!

My post above really referred to repairing movements. A jeweler should be able to put the back on for you.
