Bbc Suddenly Ends Contract For Broadcasting F1 On Television

Is there anything left worth watching on the BBC if you are not the slightest bit interested in cooking, dancing, watching wild animals or being lectured to by presenters assuming its audience are stupid - i.e., Watchdog?

All right, I exaggerate a little: there is University Challenge and Only Connect. But they got rid of Top Gear because of that nasty Mr Clarkson (but don't mind showing repeats on BBC3) and have now cancelled one of the few other programmes I enjoyed watching.

I used to defend the BBC when others complained about it. Now, I am beginning to wonder if it has become so 'politically correct' that allowing itself to show noxious motor vehicles polluting the atmosphere can no longer be tolerated.

Yes shoota, and we will have to endure terrible adverts. I could also get Sky Sports, but resent doing that if I already pay a license fee. I do not mind paying the license fee to avoid adverts on the BBC if they show programmes I want to watch. But these are becoming fewer and fewer as those about cooking, dancing, watching paint dry, etc increase.

The real problem is that this government and its supporters (Murdoch, Daily Mail, etc) hate the Beeb because they see it as unfair competition for their own media empires. Consequently BBC funding is constantly under threat, so that expensive programs end up getting dropped.

Playbill...you may want Formula 1 on the BBC, but lots (including me) don't. So, with the money saved they can screen something that I want to see instead.

gingejbee: They manage to show seemingly endless amounts of sports involving people either hitting or kicking balls.

Weeks of continuous tennis every year on BBC1 and BBC2 - often at the same time; hours and hours of cycling, running, jumping and throwing things and other sports that do not interest me. Plus the Olympics - wonder what that cost?

But now nothing involving naughty motor cars. So I think I am right about the BBC's stance.

I put the words 'politically correct' in inverted commas to suggest that this move conforms with the BBC's increasing left-wing bias.

I think that it is pure economics: the 'sport' section of the BBC has to find £35 million, axing F1 goes a long way towards that figure.
I don't think your polluting idea holds water.
