I was just watching the end of this show and noticed that the classic car - a blue van, don't know the make - had no seat belts. Is this within the law?

Yes for classic cars before a certain date which didn't have them fitted as original equipment.
Yes it is, classic cars (can't remember from which year) do not require you to wear a seat belt. If it wasn't fitted with them originally you do t have to gave them retrospectively.
A lot of the vehicles they use don't have seat belts.
Yes, mentioned on yesterday's programme that because it was manufactured before they became legal it is exempt.
Don't have to ^^^
//In the UK, a requirement for anchorage points was introduced in 1965, followed by the requirement in 1968 to fit three-point belts in the front outboard positions on all new cars and all existing cars back to 1965.//

Thank you everybody. I didn't see yesterday's programme and am clueless about cars.
Yes, I remember my Mum having to take her 1965 Triumph Herald to have seat belts fitted. If it had been a 1964 model it could have gone on without them.
It was a 1962 Bedford van.
