If this is truly the one that was in the news, then the barcode doesn't look too bad to me and I am fairly sure that a good forensic examination should
be able to crack this mystery.

I don't know what info is stored in what part of the barcode, but there seems enough there to get most of it. And amazing how 'all' identifying parts are unfortunately gone. Very unfortunate if she really did have two mishaps, but highly suspicious; I think it naive to believe it until they do their forensics on it.
The only thing I'm a little unsure about is how someone who, having realised they were in an area where an unclaimed fortune winning ticket was sold, could identify the exact shop such that their claim wasn't immediately known to be fraudulent. Surely common sense would dictate claiming not recalling which shop you popped into that time ?
//it would save camelot a lot of trouble if they changed the rules to 'damaged tickets are void' //
It would , however I don't agree that they should .
I often buy a ticket , put it in my pocket and on occasions , only remember about it along with other stuff , days later .
In the interim my trousers could easily get put in the wash , without the pockets being checked . ( which has happened in the past ) .
I'm sure this and similiar , happens to tons of people - so if i've got a winning ticket and it's able to be confirmed by camelot , why on earth should i or a n other , lose out?
They pay themselves plenty of money to run the lottery ( with little effort given, their captive audience ) - they can easily afford to keep that service- and instances like these are extremely infrequent in any event
