Have You Ever Appeared In A Tv Programme?
28 Answers
I did many years ago. We used to have dancing lessons when we lived in Leamington Spa. One week we looked out the window and saw tv cameras over the road at the town hall. Naturally we went out to investigate. They were filming Keeping Up Appearances which was always filmed in the area. We went over the road and watched. Suddenly a car appeared with Hyacinth and Richard in fancy dress. I think she was Boudica or whatever they call her now.
We were all arranged around the car.
When it appeared on TV I was given a very clear view for about 4 seconds.
It's amazing to see yourself so young. I kept the recording on hard drive all these years until OH accidentally deleted it at Christmas.
So now when I see one of the programmes advertised I check to see if it is that one so I can record it again

I think for that one we were a bit unlucky, my Mum and I, as in rehearsals we were in loads of shots but then for the actual (live) service we (my Mum and I) ended up one row back -- and most of the shots stopped panning at the row one ahead of us. But never mind. I think mainly she was annoyed that she thought the balcony wasn't available and it turns out it totally was, so she missed out on her fifteen minutes of fame.
Unless I've missed a relevant edition of Crimewatch, I think that I've managed to stay off the telly! (I was once invited to be in the audience of a programme from Leeds, and ask the politicians who were being fgrilled some pertinent questions on behalf of my union, but the train times didn't work out right for me to attend).
I've also declined several opportunities to appear in the movies. (The school I taught in was used by Ken Loach for one of his films and the staff were encouraged to appear as extras).
However I've been on radio several times, as a relief presenter for BBC radio Sheffield, as an interviewee for the same station and for the local commercial station (Radio Hallam). I've also been interviewed on BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio Suffolk.
I was pictured on the front page of the Times Educational Supplement at the age of 10 (playing the recorder) and quoted on the front page of The Telegraph in the 1980s.

I appeared on several editions of the news back in the 70s whilst on my second 4 month tour of Northern Ireland. I had been seconded to the CO's party to cover for absentees and, on 2 separate occasions, some politician or other visited Belfast City Centre and, of course, was received by the CO with the cameras present. Must admit, i looked very alert and professional standing in the background, trying to pretend the cameras weren't there.
