Does anyone watch this show?

People come in wanting their dodgy tattoos covered up, but some of them are only an inch or so high and they always cover them with another that's at least a foot long and wide.

Why is this I wonder? Some of the new tats are really nice (not that I'm a tats person) but they are way too big.

I don't like them but my Daughter has about 20...She's an artist and the ones she has are really woks of art. I still don't understand why people do it though. My Daughter can't enlighten me, she just says they are part of her journey and look nice :o(

I watch the programme sometimes if I'm up late. I enjoy it, and agree about the size of the new tatoos. They seem a bit OTT.
I think, done well, and on beautiful people they can look amazing. I wouldn't have them myself. I'd rather look at a piece of art on my wall than have one permanently inked onto my body.

Have caught it once or twice. More cover-ups than fixes. I believe fixes involve lasers ?

Sure the artists have skill, but like the general opinion here so far, on a canvas they're fine, in the skin they're spoiling the person's body/appearance.

No accounting for taste; but when celebs get them done you can guarantee a meteoric rise in popularity in the population.

The reason they need to be bigger is to conceal the one being hidden.
There needs to be enough heavy colouring in the tattoo to cover, to prevent the tattoo showing through in the gaps of the new tattoo, that is actually very difficult to do.

It isnt just a case of putting another tattoo over the top, the skill is being able to prevent the old one showing through the new one.

I have a cover up, again it had to be much larger than the original to be effective.

As for Douglas's comment "Artwork!? Glorified tracing and colouring in more like." That is just ridiculous! Yes often they are traced or printed on to the skin first, but that is to save time in the studio, they cant all be drawn on or inked freehand, that would be totally unrealistic. Most tattoo artists are extremely good artists, most design their own tattoos.

I watch this and am impressed by the artistry of the tattooists but often wonder why the cover ups are so big .... some of the originals are so small that they could be scribbled over to hide them. I have watched a young relative progress from self harm to tattoos and have also wondered if they are the acceptable face of cutting ones self... I also wonder about some of the designs.. why would anyone want a gorilla's head on their leg for example? Having said that some are really lovely.

Ive heard lots of criticisms of tattooed people but never that! I can assure you that most people just love the pictures, the art they have tattooed on themselves.

Also, do you really think people want "scribbled" out pictures on their bodies?

My nephew has two armfuls of tattoos, and is aiming for the whole of his upper body to be done, when he has the time. He also has a couple of dodgy-looking ones that he had done as a teenager that he hopes he'll get covered up one day.
I wonder what he's going to do when he runs out of skin and might find another pic that he wants.

Eek, Ratter. Having them lasered must be horribly painful, especially as he has some deeply coloured tattoos.
I can understand people having a tattoo to signify an important event or something they love, but why get your whole body done? So much time spent in pain.

Cloverjo, clearly they think the end justifies the means for the person concerned. Tattoos arent actually very painful, very tolerable. I only have my arms done, I doubt I will get any more at my age, but who knows?

RATTER15 ... just wondered about relative as he has covered himself in some rather dodgy inkings after spending his middle to late teens cutting himself. No I don't think that is true for all and I have no problems with people doing to their bodies as they will. I do think some of the tats I have seen are fantastically artistic ... although some may not be desirable in later life. Each to their own I believe.... as I said just wondered about the few.

Where does she fit all those tats ?- no don't answer :-)

Part of her journey ? How old is she - when she finishes that journey , will she be still be happy with the tats or will she have regrets ?

I love this programme! I think the tattooists are such nice people, when the impression you often get of tattooed people is that they are rough and hard. Jay especially is gorgeous! Having said that I could no more have a tattoo done that fly to the moon.

The people do seem lovely. I'm almost tempted to get a tattoo done there, just to spend some time with them.

RATTER15 .... thanks a bunch for that....it seems as if there may be a link...not for everyone but certainly for some... which may well include my relative. I was only wondering in relation to him. I have also wondered if there is a link between a feeling of poor self worth and the more extreme forms of body adornment.... I am interested in what makes people do things...I met a really nice chap at a motorbike rally in Yorkshire some years ago... he was heavily tattooed but not on his face, neck or hands... which made some sense. My relative has them allover including his fingers .. I would not think that is a good look at job interviews.Thanks again
