Are there places that have amazed or moved you, unexpectedly perhaps?
Some of mine:
Culloden: haunting
The new Coventry Cathedral: having lived from birth amid mediaeval churches and a wonderful Norman cathedral I thought I would hate it. It moved me to tears.
Venice: on my first visit, coming out of a narrow waterway (in a water taxi from the airport) into the Grand Canal just by the Rialto ~ magical!
Years ago my mum took us around the Blackwatch museum in Perth. I am not an emotional person but there was something about all the photographs of the young guys who died in the first world war. It was thought provoking.
Did you know that some of the most highly paid workers in France are the lift boys in the Eiffel Tower? Last I heard it was £30,000 p.a. and that was over twenty years ago!
Go and see the Venetian Hotel in Vegas and have a gondola ride. It will make your jaw drop. You will think you are in Venice. It even has a false but realistic sky!
