'The Magdalene Sisters', BBC2 11:50 pm. Whilst it is not based on a singke true story, it is said to accurately portray events which were commonplace in such institutions. For those who haven't seen it yet, it is a quite shocking film - the biggest shock, imho, coming in the end credits.

The fear of god was literally beaten into us......would be called child abuse these days. It took me a good long tome to rid myself of the guilt I felt if I passed by a church and did not make the sign of the cross!

Up until a few decades ago nuns in Dublin denied that these laundries ever existed. They had to acknowledge it when excavations were done in their convent grounds and numerous tiny graves were uncovered. So heartbreaking.
