where was the first cinema in the uk opened?

I have conflicting thoughts in my head.

Brighton I think. Brighton was pretty important in British cinema (or photography) for some reason.

But then I remember Britain's oldest cinema (or at least I remember this was their claim) was in Paignton. But this could be Britain's oldest cinema STILL RUNNING.

Apparently the first purpose built cinema in the UK was Central Hall in Colne, which was opened in 1907. Unfortunately it was knocked down fairly recently.

at first they showed films in barns, music halls, whatever. It was a while before they started producing purpose-built ones. The Duke of York in Brighton and Phoenix in East Finchley have been going since 1910, though I don't know if this has been continuous. This one claims to be 'the oldest purpose-built, continuously operated cinema in the World' and it may be true.
