and visited every constituency during the election ( well almost )
and lost ...

he also never in that election mentioned ed heath - calling him Selsden Man and so on - but that didnt work out either ( see above )

when roosevelt was re elected to a fourth presidency in Jan 1945
he had been elected to kick the Japs osses
and when he died after 16 wks ( oops )
the sense of shock led the Americans to enact the amendment limiting the president to two terms

there was the sense that they had NOT elected Truman ( who was kinda there as Vice P )

that Truman turned out to be a hopeless incompetent may have had something to do with it
