Why is Dylan Thomas's work called "Under Milk Wood"
Answers
Listen. It is night moving in the streets, the processional salt slow musical wind in Coronation Street and Cockle Row, it is the grass growing on Llareggub Hill, dewfall, starfall, the sleep of birds in Milk Wood. Listen. It is night in the chill, squat chapel, hymning in bonnet and... They are.

Dylan Thomas was going to call his 1954 play for voices "Llareggub, A Piece for Radio Perhaps".
But his friends convinced Thomas that American audiences would not understand the joke ( *** not being a commonly used word in American English, 60-odd years ago )
So, he changed the name to "Under Milk Wood", the forest that covers the hill above the town of Llareggub.
Its also worth bearing in mine that while Llareggub is funny, the word could never exist in Welsh, as there is no precedence for a double G in the language.
This is my favourite version of the play, from 1972 ....look at the cast !
