What on earth is going on???

I tuned in to Radio Two driving in the car, and heard two 'presenters' doing an excellent job of sounding like they were in separate rooms with a few seconds' delay on each other's headphones, with at least one talking in a language that is not their native tongue.

Turns out it's Fern Cotton (why?) and Martin Kemp (double why???).

Who would give Radio Two airtime to either of these people - much less together? It was a complete dog's breakfast, and hopefully not to be repeated.

People should know their skills, and stick to them.

Hearing Martin Kemp as a radio presenter brings to mind Dr. Johnson's famous quote about women preaching being compared to a dog walking on its hind legs -'It is not that it is not done well, more that one is surprised to see it done at all ...'.

Totally agree andy-hughes, two more names to add to the "switch off" list, Craig Charles was recently added. I can only assume that the producers who employ these people don't actually listen to the programmes and the presenters have to have as part of their CV " Able to talk over studio guests", " loves to listen to own voice", and "uses 30 words when 3 will do". At least I can get to use garrulous, one of my favourite words..
Also agree...I stick to my "I don't tune in if I know I won't like it" decision...and I KNOW I won't like Ms.Cotton.
Managed 2 minutes on finding the car radio tuned to Radio2. Back to Radio 5 PDQ.
Saturday Kitchen was recorded. That's why they no longer call it Saturday Kitchen Live!
Presenters I'd axe immediately from everything if I ran British radio and TV: Chrs Evans, Mariella Frostrup, Craig Charles, Alice Beer, Gaby Logan, Dermot So Dreary, Toby Antspiss
Don't forget Vanessa Feltz or Gyles Brandreth,Vernon.!!
My list of 'must go' presenters is very similar to Vernonk's, including Chris Evans, Mariella Frostrup and Craig Charles. Like Unsureme, I'd definitely add the (totally dire) Vanessa Feltz to the list as well. (Can we also get rid of Steve Wright, please?).

However Dermot O'Leary is an outstanding presenter, so I've got to disagree there.

Around last Christmas Radio 2 used Mary Berry as a presenter on several occasions. She really irritated me!

The best presenters tend to get hidden way late at night (the Dark Lord rules!) or simply taken off air (e.g. Richard Allinson).
i can't think of anyone who'd be better than grahm norton in tht slot, therefore i think FC nd MK were doomed to fail (in my eyes at least). They are on till GN comes back from his summer break i think.
Craig charles is also awful i agree steve wright makes me want to pull my brin out thru my ears too. Bloody jo whiney as well.
However, i really like chris evans
Martin Kemp does not have a good radio voice. I managed five minutes of that show.
I love Craig Charles
I can never remember which is which of the Kemp brothers. Is Martin the really good-looking one or the marginally less good-looking? I agree with the choice of Vanessa Feltz. Instant switch-off. The other I can't bear is Simon Mayo.
Anything is better than Graham Norton on the radio.
Oh yes forgot Steve Wright.....if he says "serious jockin" one more time...
. . . or if he presses the 'Bong' button just one more time when the travel presenter says 'knock on effect' . . .

Grrr!
I've commented before, but can I make a positive point? Listen to Huey Morgan on Radio2 from 3 til 6am on Saturdays. Fabulously divergent playlist usually.

PS I agree with ALL the comment s above. :))
... oh and absolutely no waffle between records, he seems to want to cram as much as possible into the programme.
Buenchico is right, the best R2 presenter by far is the Dark Lord (Alex Lester).

His talent is so wasted at night, though I did find him once when the sun was up - on BBC Radio Oxford!
I love Graham Norton on TV and radio.
I've listened to Steve Wright for years and have never heard him say "serious jockin'".
I can't bear his sidekick Andy, though, and their 'factoids'.
He's called Tim, not Andy, isn't he? Dur.
