Changes in action/adventure films over the years

I have some media studies homework. I must write an essay explaining how action and adventure films have changed over the years. For example, the way women or men are portrayed. Any help would be ace : )

The obvious answer is re female roles - more important, more action involved if not the person pushing/taking the action.

Female role is even often stronger than that of the male.

Many things,; I shall have a serious think.

Clothes, of course - much more adapted.

I agree with fagin, it is mainly the women's role that has developed into a more equal share of the action and adventure, rather than being just the pretty face to provide the romantic interest.  But there have been some complete reversals of the role, for example in Tomb raider, Kill Bill and Crouching Tiger, but that is just a few.......women are now also more prominent as villains than they were in the world of Hitchcock and James Bond.

Also the use of colour - the way flash backs will be shown in sepia, even slow motion. Black and white -it's all up to you though to find the examples, lil_mrs, sorry!

If you figure out who she is grass her up. It may not make your essay any better, but you'd be able to sneer at her as her coursework gets a crappy mark for cheating.

Think of Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) in "Aliens". She manages to be kick-ass AND a decent mother-substitute to the little girl. It wouldn't have happened in a film made in the 60's.

Or Jinx (Halle Berry) in the last Bond film; arguably the first Bond girl who's a match for 007. Basically, female characters tend to be more pro-active now than sit around waiting to be rescued.
