Bathsheba - I checked one of my email addresses and found messages from Facebook people.
At first I just assumed they were spam, but then I received a phone number change email, so on looking at the other emails there was one from Facebook - "one more thing before you start using Facebook".
To me this was a double opt in email.
Turns out someone setup an account using my email (by mistake - they had the same email as me but with numbers after it - which they forgot use use! - and not just on Facebook!) and was able to start using it without the double opt in!
I did a password reset, logged in and closed the account. So hence why I have no desire to use it.
