I am a newcomer to The Chase - the present Mrs Hughes is a fan, so we have watched a few together.

I cannot understand how anyone could morally take a minus amount, and then return to the team and potentially take a share of a smaller amount to which they have not contributed, indeed, they have actually cased to be reduced.

I know it’s ‘only a game’, but even so, I for one could not take a share of prize money I hadn’t won from people whose share I had deliberately sabotaged.

Ah but, you could then go on and fill in some of the holesin the knowledge of the other contestants, in the final chase.

I agree, Andy-Hughes. I always hope the contestant loses if they take the minus. Just greedy and unfair. Especially if someone has taken the risk and gone high earlier.

I agree with you Cloverjo, but it also means the start with an extra step. I would never do it.

If that is the reasoning, I would expect the ‘minus’ player to pick up ninety per cent of the final questions!

As has been said, each player means a step head start and they may get the one answer that none of the others had a clue about that gave the win.

It's funny at times to watch the chasers getting questions wrong when they're trying to get someone through with a minus amount to reduce the prize fund.

Yes, Sean does that a lot. He just shrugs his shoulders when he gets one of those wrong. I can't believe he doesn't know the answers to some of those.
