Brit Awards Overhaul Voting System To Promote Diversity

Surely the votes should reflect the quality of the artist and their music, even if there happens not to be enough BAME or female artists amongst the winners?

I wonder if they will be doing likewise for the next MOBO Awards, all in the name of diversity you understand?

Well, some of the changes they are making seem perfectly reasonable...

The Brits are usually skewed to popular music that's in the charts. So, quality and talent don't usually come in to it :-)

What the hell does it matter what their skin colour or gander is?

We are constantly told we are just one big melting pot and the same colour blood runs through all our veins.

So why this constant seeking for diversity, surely that is only seeking for and highlighting the differences between us?

Having a fair balance on voting panels makes sense to me.

Having a more diverse judging panel will mean that there is likely to be a larger spread of nominees and votes.

A good thing in all these awards.

It should not be to promote diversity but to represent the population.

I think the BBC in it's haste for all things PC has got it wrong here because all it seems to be doing is balancing the figures to represent the population.

It's called evolution to a more culturally diverse voting system to reflect our culturally diverse society.

It's a good thing and to be welcomed and nothing to be afraid about.

So they didnt do it to promote diversity they did to to balance. Using a headline 'to promote diversity' just gets peoples backs up, and it is not true.

Haven't watched the Brits for 30 years .
I'm not sure awards ceremonies generally ever reflect genuine quality do they? Undoubtedly they do when something generally considered as outstanding comes along, but then in a sense such rarities are above awards.
It's a beanfest for the producers and record industry bods. Not saying there's anything wrong with that as long as we recognise it as such.
