Watching the latest Celebrity Mastermind and don't recognise any of the celebrities. Vincent Franklin, Christian Malcolm, Chris Warburton, Graham Fellowes. What constitutes a celebrity these days?

>>> Does appearing on radio shows really make them celebrities? Why not? Chris Evans' radio audience is, at just under 10 million, almost identical to that of Strictly Come Dancing. Surely you're not saying that he doesn't qualify as a 'celebrity' (even if he hadn't done Top Gear as well)?

you may know graham fellowes better as his alter-egos, ie Jilted John and, more recently, John Shuttleworth.
I only know Graham Fellowes as his alter ego John Shuttleworth off the radio.
Not watching but a fitting catagory would be The who?

Who?
I'm always a little surprised that some think 'A' list celebrities would have the time or inkling to go on a TV quiz show.

Though there may be some who'd love to but are never asked.
I find it quite pleasing that the list of 'celebs' you've provided recognises that radio is just as important (or far more so, in the minds of many people) than TV.

Any Radio 4 listener will surely know the character of John Shuttleworth

portrayed so wonderfully by Graham Fellowes. Fans of Radio 5 Live will know Chris Warburton from his 'Saturday Edition' programme.
A policeman would know his name
Why not have it on the wireless then ?
The 'wireless', Weecalf, had Mastermind for three years anyway (1998 to 2000) but it's long had a far better quiz which would leave most Mastermind champions totally baffled, the wonderful 'Round Britain Quiz'.

Does appearing on radio shows really make them celebrities? Would any be physically recognised out in public?
Fellows is my favourite novelty act !

His new series started last Sunday ::::

Perhaps they should retitle it for you.

"People who have in some way or another contributed to entertainment, the arts or sport or something along those lines Mastermind 2016"

Though I believe the show you mentioned was from last year.

Why not?

I agree with you Vern, I think a 'Celebrity' should be instantly recognizable to most.

Buenchico, though I can't abide or listen to Chris Evans, I can tell you he was a massive tv star way before he did Top Gear, thru shows like The Big Breakfast, Don't Forget Your Toothbrush, and TFI Friday
What constitutes a celebrity these days is someone known to the public for doing just about anything without having a recognised talent or ability to do anything of real merit or value.
Those left over are , in no particular order, pundits, experts, practitioners and stars.
Anybody left over is a consumer/dupe of the above.
Those like Ant and Dec then Douglas.
Those like Ant and Dec then Douglas.

How very dare you ... national treasures they are.
Vernonk,

I said exactly the same to my son, 'who are they?' which reminds me of the football fans in the stands, shouting at the opposition.
