10 Rillington Place On Tonight
67 Answers
Just noticed that this film is being shown as a tribute to John Hurt tonight on BBC2 at 11:15 - 1:05am....Going to record it to watch later in the week.
If anyone hasn't seen it, or even those who have, I strongly recommend it as a powerful true story with first class acting from Richard Attenborough and John Hurt. The film does contain disturbing scenes.
Just thought I'd mention it.if any want to watch or record it.:-)

Yep, can't comment on the Tim Roth versions haven't seen it....Hope too in future
Didn't see Andy's comments about hanging scene and can't remember if it was in fact in the original theatrical cut....Sounds as if, sadly, a trim has been made to the version shown last night....Maybe not...Andy will probably know what the original version showed.
Interesting to see if link I've just put on for Mikey is uncut or cut.....Still a great film any version.
Attenborough's performance is stunning, as is John Hurt's too.
Ummmm,
If you've never seen Hurt's portrayal of The Elephant Man, you just got to see it....Have some tissues nearby...Always makes me blub, what he must have gone through.
Hope you're well, my lovely x

I didn't see last night's version, but the version I saw - cinema I think - showed Evans sitting in his cell when the door opened quickly and two men walked in. As a warder sled the false wardrobe away, revleaing the exercution room ready, Evans was walked in, pinioned and dropped. Mr Pierpont said his record was twelve seconds for this procedure, and the film showed how it could be done.
ummmm - //In the version I just watched you just seen him drop and as soon as he dropped it went back to a scene involving Christy. //
Then that is the original scene, the cut is straight from what would be the end of the drop, to Christie straightening up and grimacing as his back cracks - very clever piece of work indeed.

Andy....I am watching this on another screen and he has just murdered Judy Geeson!
She was an early passion of mine, from "Here we go round the Mulberry Bush" when I was about 14-15 !
By the way, as you will know "Here we go round the Mulberry Bush" featured the Spencer Davies Group. Spencer's father, worked for GPO telephones when I was an apprentice and was known as Dai the Box, as he made the brick linings for manholes.
He used regale us with stories of how he had the Stones and the Beatles in "his front room" in the early 60's here in Swansea, when they were not well known and Spencer used to bring them round for Tea !
I wonder where Spencer Davies is now ?

Use the second link I posted, as apparently the first one might have lip sync problems into the film

I remember the fabulous Mark Radcliffe playing a clip of the band on his sadly short-lived 'White Room' TV show, and asking - as only MR can - "If Stevie Winwood was the teenage genius who played the organ and sang lead vocals and was such an impact, why did they call it the Spencer Davis Group ... perhaps he owned the van!"
Fabulous.
