New series on BBC 1 tonight anyone watch it give it a try but couldn't get in to it !

It does seem slow and moody, atmosphere creating, rather than action filled. I think one needs to be in the mood for that sort of programme.

This sort of stuff no doubt sells books but it surely degrades the memory of those who fought sufferred and died to prevent this happening.

Or you could take the view that had it not been for their sacrifices and privations *that* is the sort of society/world we could have found ourselves living in?
I thought it set the scene very well and look forwards to the remaining episodes.

I thought it was worthy of the BBC....good acting and high production values. But I generally like this sort of thing better in a book, rather than on TV. I shall watch next week of course, with interest.

Grumpy....I can't agree with you at all. Books like this and those by Robert Harris tell us how awful the Germans would have been. They also tell us how close we actually came to this being a reality. If Germany had come across the channel, instead of turning on Russia, we might all be speaking German now.

I found it very good. Well acted and the sets were, excellent. I agree with you, Mikey. It in no way degrades our soldiers, sailors and airmen. If anything it makes their sacrifices greater in our minds, and thankful that their bravery won through.

I enjoyed it eventually. I can't help being distracted by the smoking though! We've got so used to not seeing it. I used to chain smoke like that in the 50s and 60s. I wonder whether they use real ciggies these days? Does anyone know?
Also a very small query - do you say 'I haven't seen him 'in' ages' or 'for' ages? I though 'in' ages was a modern way of saying it. Probably me!!!

Mikey you are quite correct we could have all been speaking German but we aren't.Therefore a lot of this is conjecture ,no doubt it makes good watching for those who like it but it's not for me.

I did watch it once, just to see if Anne Widdecombe really was making a complete fool of herself, and she was ! Never saw the need to watch it again.
