What is going on in Lost? i've missed a couple of episodes and now toatlly confused!!

can anyone help explain what it is all about?any idea what this island is?

I've just bought the entire first series on DVD and having watched all of them, I'm still none the wiser.  Suggest you invest 40 quid in buying the set from Amazon.  Don't want to spoil it for everyone but the whole thing gets weirder and weirder and there are loads of suprises along the way but you are no nearer understanding what the island is all about.  Roll on the second series in 6 month time.

I gave up watching it about 4 weeks ago.  The only interesting thing was the individual flashback stories of the characters.  The actual story on the island doesn't make sense and I suspect it is never supposed to either.

My brother lives in Australia and has seen the whole first series, and like Goonerdave, he is still none the wiser.

And yes, the flashbacks are probably the best bit

Not good with names but here's a summary of the last few weeks:

Dizzy blonde girl has asthma, and when her inhalers were lost they assumed it was brooding blonde on the beach. Jack and Said went to get them back, and Said tortured him by sticking bamboo splinters up his nails. He hadn't pinched them and Said felt such remorse he went to explore the island. He met the French woman who had left the 16 year old "help" message. She has gone a little loopy, but says she's from a scientific group who got shipwrecked. All her colleagues got ill so she had to kill them (she said). He escapes and runs back to caves with a map.

Meanwhile back at the caves pregnant woman is having nightmares and wakes up saying someone is trying to attack her. Jack doesn't believe her so she flounces off into the jungle. Chris catches her up and calms her down so they head back to the caves but meet Ethan (possibly) on the way. Fat bloke has been checking the names of all the people against the flight manifest and finds that one of the men at the caves was not on the plane - Ethan!! Mad dash through the jungle to find pregnant girl, but Ethan has taken her and Chris. Jack and dark-haired woman follow one trail and eventually find and resurrect Chris who's been hung, and says "they" only wanted her. Hunter bloke and asthma girl's brother follow other trail and find steel hatch in the ground.

Dah dah dah - hold the excitement till wednesday!

This prog is an irritating piece of c**p that goes nowhere, the writer has the imagination to create a mystery but doesn't have the skill to make any sense of it.

It's a bit like the X files, a prog with potential that goes nowhere.

i dont think you are meant to make sense out of it ! thats the whole point...no matter how much you discuss and debate no-one will ever solve the true plot line.

Stick with it if you can, it gets better.Also, keep an eye on the background during the flashbacks because there are little links.I am a few episodes into the second series,and believe me, the best is yet to come!

It would bally well need to! It reminds me of Twin Peaks in that you keep watching it hoping it will get better/make sense. It may well get better in series 2 but that's a long time to wait.

I download the episodes as soon as they are aired in the States, so i have seen the first series plus the four or five first episodes of the second one....and yes, it does start to make sense! i can't really tell you whats going on on the island....i do have quite a clear idea now, but it is definitely worth the suspense i think.... (you're gonna have to wait until the last episode of the first series and the first of the second one to know much more about the mystery of the island). Lost is one of the most clever shows i've ever watched, and i can't get enough of it!
