Why are the police assuming its attempted murder and that he was pushed down the stairs? Why do they not think he just fell or fainted? Have I missed something??

The nature of the injury to his head.
...and I think they said he had bruising to his arms
Having him faint is not a good story line, the other 'Soaps' have their murder plots so 'Currynation Street' has to have it's share.

I mean if someone was upstairs waiting to push him why would they then grab his arms?
Corrie Spoiler
It turns out it was Audrey
she was trying to get on top of Ken
that's how there was bruising on his arms
she was trying to pin him down

I don't watch Corrie but I do know that the Old Bill treat any unexplained death as a possible crime until it can be proved otherwise.

For example, a few years ago the elderly lady who lived opposite me was found dead at the foot of her stairs. It was eventually decided that she'd either had a stroke, causing her to fall downstairs, or that she'd accidentally fallen downstairs, resulting in a stroke. In the meantime though the road was full of police cars, with plain-clothes officers carrying out door-to-door enquiries.

Similarly, every time someone jumps in front of a train (which is roughly once per day across the UK) British Transport Police always assume that they were pushed or, for example, that they were running away from an attacker, when the fatality occurred.

i.e. the rule used by the police is always "It's a crime scene unless we know otherwise".

'Tis very true now you mention it
Phelan is just too lucky! I wish Todd had let rot!
Buenchico - not quite true. Our son died following a fall down stairs last year. The only reason the police came was because we couldn't get in the front door. As soon as paramedics came police left.
aww masma, so sorry
That's sad Masma :( so sorry

Over here in Ireland unexplained deaths are checked out, when my friend passed away a few weeks after being given the all clear from hospital, she was brought away for a post mortem, it was natural but her daughters had to wait and it was upsetting seeing the Garda cars outside the house
Haven't seen Friday's 2nd episode. Is there any progress in Ken's case?
Question Author
Masks I am SO sorry to hear that xx

Masma. Blooming predictive!!
Thank you for your kind words. Feel free to look back at my past 'posts' and see just what happened. Anneasquith was so kind to me at the time as were many other folk on here.
Masma, how are you, I often think about you, is you're grandson fine?
He's wonderful Anne and .... were keeping our fingers crossed for a grandaughter too! She's been living with our daughter and son-in-law for a month now so there's a good way to go before they can adopt her. As I say fingers crossed, she's a dear little soul.
I hope you and yours are well?
How fabulous, good luck to you all . :-)
Ken remembered having breakfast and arguing with Phelan on the morning of his 'accident'. I don't know why Adam needed an alibi for the night before.
