AOG - //When are they going to get some 'real' celebrities on these chat shows, I know I am getting on in years and perhaps don't keep up with the latest 'wow factors' but honestly most of them have little or no personality and nothing interesting to say. //
It's a sign of the times.
In the heyday of the chat show, when Parkinson ruled, stars were people the public were slightly in awe of. If a famous person came on and Parky cued up the story, and the star would reel it off, people were genuinely fascinated.
Of course, in those days, celebrities were stars - you actually had to be famous for a talent, and then people were interested in hearing you talk about it - and a talent was often accompanied by a personality, sometimes a fabulous one like Peter Ustinov or David Niven.
Now of course, you need no talent whatever to be a 'celebrity, in fact a talent and a personality can be seen as a positive hindrance!
With the mass influx of 'celebrity', the currency is proportionately devalued as a consequence, which is why they should stop putting these people on TV because they are vacuous and crashing empty-headed bores.
The 'chat show' is a dinosaur format and should be ditched - older audiences don't know who these people are, younger audiences are not interested in hearing them talk, and the hosts are barely literate.
Fingers crossed, the Nightly Show will be the final nail in the coffin of this sort of televisual pap - we can only hope.
