What Was Your Best Investment Ever?

Back in 1994, I got a small bonus from work - about £100 - and decided to treat myself to a bottle of a thirty year old Malt that I'd read a 5 star review of in The Graun that week.
It had to be ordered specially by Oddbins in Solihull, who couldn't believe that anyone would actually want a bottle given the ridiculous price. It cost me £93 ... quite a lot of people thought I was mad.
I never got round to opening that special bottle - there was always a better occasion 'coming soon' to breach it - so it sat unopened in my cellar/cupboard until this week.
I have just received the cash from selling that bottle of Black Bowmore 1964/1994 - and am exactly £5,000 richer than I was at this time yesterday.
I make that aout 19% per annum compound interest.
The Guinness is on me at the quiz tonight ...

I have never been able to repeat my fathers success 1960-1963 ( "years of you have never had it so good!") when he tripled his money on the stock market - as Barmaid above - this paid for our education
I asked my mother if it was triple his stake or triple his money and she said - hmm good question
it was after all so long ago

A relative of mine used to come and visit every couple of years or so .. they always brought me a bottle of whiskey for some strange reason.
So on the shelf in the garage I have bottles of Glenlivet, Glenmorangie, Jameson and Dura to name a few. All of them were 10 to 20 years old when I was given them .. 20 or more years ago. I dont even drink whiskey !
I doubt they are worth any more than the equivalent bottle at todays prices, are they ?
... Well done dave !
