I might be a bit dim here (or at least technologically challenged), but can anyone explain to me what is (and how do) 'fire sticks' work?
I no longer own a tv but I do miss my films. Am I right in saying that fire sticks provide films via internet? Also can you get other things on them beside films (eg, tv series's ). Ive obviously heard about them but know nothing about how they work, whats available on them etc. Are they updated with other films etc or is it a one off kind of thing?
Any info appreciated,
Thanks guys.

it acts like a freeview box but it's wifi, and you can sign up to amazons own payg tv stuff and netflix, it has catchup channels e4 iplayer etc
but most people install kodi on it or use amazon prime to watch paid for stuff, it also again amazon products apps books you can purchase.
a freeview box is a better option, unless your after using kodi that you install yourself on it, but thats up to you.
it works on wifi through USB on telly....not sure if it would on computer ?

Thanks guys
//a freeview box is a better option// as I said I don't own a tv, wondered if it worked via a lappy?

As above minty :)
BBC player..Iplayer ch4 and 5 catch up and uktv app gets a whole range of telly though Nailit
if you havent got a telly, a fire stick will be no use to you,
If you dont have amazon prime, a firestick will be no use to you.

cross posted minty, sorry
You can subscribe to services such as Amazon Prime and Netflix to watch films on your pc, laptop, smartphone and tablet, nailit.
There are other services available.

Thanks all :)
Will have to stick to youtube for entertainment then?
Just ploughed my way through all 66 episodes of 'Drop the Dead Donkey' on a playlist...Better than what passes for comedy nowadays anyway.

Sorry, getting replies quicker than I can type/reply lol
oh watches all the new releases on my link Nailit, some of them have not even got to cinema here !!
An Amazon Fire Stick has to be plugged into a TV's HDMI port, so without a TV you won't be able to use one.

Once you've got one plugged in though you can use the apps on it to access free services (such as BBC iPlayer and Youtube) and, if you pay the subscriptions, services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. (Netflix costs £5.99 per month for Standard Definition, £7.49 per month for HD or £8.99 for Ultra HD. Amazon's basic service costs £5.99 per month, with their 'Prime' service costing £7.99).

You don't need a TV (or an Amazon Fire Stick) to access all of that stuff. You can watch it all on your computer anyway (although, of course, you'll still have to pay for the subscription services). All that an Amazon Fire Stick does is to enable you to watch on your TV instead of your PC or laptop.
