Sky Q Query

I have sky Q booked in next week and was wondering if anyone out there has it and whether It's worth it, it wont be costing is any more, but what changes? Can you still remote record on your phone ,is sky go the same and can I still record taped programmes onto my DVD recorder, we have multi room and apparently that would now be seen through broadband sorry this long winded basically is it worth all the hassle,!!! Thanks for any help

With Sky Q you only have one main Sky box and you record ALL the programs on that one box (even if you have multi room).

For the multi room TVs you have a small wi fi box that connects to the one main Sky box.

This means because you record all the programs on the one Sky box you can record a program on the main Sky box but watch it on the "multi room" TV.

You can even watch PART of the program on the main Sky box then go and watch the REST of it on the "multi room" TV (a bedroom for example) - or the other way round, watch part of it on the multi room TV and the rest on the main Sky box.

You can also download programs to a tablet or smartphone to watch them.

I believe you can now record SIX programs at the same time while watching a 7th.

Make sure you have ordered the Sky box with larger (2TB) hard disk in it rather than the small 1TB hard disk. You can obviously record more programs on the 2TB box.

Note I have not got Sky Q but I have considered getting it and did some research hence the answers above.

One more thing.

With the "old" Sky boxes when you ordered Sky the Sky boxes became your property.

If you had problems with the Sky box you had to pay Sky to come out and fix it.

And if you cancelled Sky you could sell the equipment on eBay.

With Sky Q then you DONT own the equipment but Sky does, so if you cancel Sky you cant sell the equipment but have to send it back to them (if a person buys a Sky Q box on eBay I don't believe they can set it up themselves).

But because Sky own the equipment if anything goes wrong with it they have to come out and fix it (for free I think).

I have a Sky Q box and don't think it is worth changing if you are happy with Sky+. However I don't watch TV on my other devices so probably don't appreciate the extra features.

Do you know if once you have recorded programmes on the main box someone can watch one recording in one room and someone else watch another different recording in another room at the same time? Thank you

How come it didnt cost any extra, Sky always seem to want something ££££?

Yes TRT you are right and it says on the advert on tv £12 extra . There is never enough decent films to warrant all those channels for recording .i will stick with my sky plus till they run out of boxes . I have a spare .

We already have multiroom so that's probably why it didn't cost extra and as a black VIP the sky Q was free not sure its worth all the hassle though I've got ten days to decide!!
