I only watched the final, I thought going out on the specialist subject was a bit harsh. I always think these kids risk growing up and having mental problems. some of them are very highly strung.

Yes I watched it but always had the feeling I shouldn't be.

Felt sorry for some of those kids being put through that by pushy parents.

Education is important but they need to be kids as well.

Makes me wonder, if the parents are doing it for their kids benefit, or for themselves?

Its child abuse on a low scale!

I've only watched a few minutes of Child Genius and was put off by some of the parents.
Then I listened, yesterday, to Richard Osman talking about the children...what they get from it.....and what they get from meeting children who are as gifted.....and, better still, more gifted than they are....

Having worked with children of all abilities I know how a child can suffer when he/she is far more able than classmates and this made me reconsider my thoughts a little....just a little....

I'm not sure this is the way to be nurturing those gifts......I listened to one mother and my feeling was that she is hell bent on "showing off" her wonderful child.......basking in the kudos of having produced this child.......therefore putting incredible pressure on him....that's wrong....

I can't comment on the winner, Horselady as I didn't last....my have a look on catchup......x

This could be quite an interesting thread on how we feel about the children who do this..... are they made to do this?
Or are they brought up in such a way that showcasing a gift becomes quite natural to them......

How could they be cheating?
I know they have warned the parents not to mouth the answers and they said it would be closely monitored to check that they dont.

If you google Child Genius cheating you'll see the accusations of cheating that have been made.......desperate accusations from parents who are unable to teach their children how to lose as well as win....


The more I look at this....and the children crying ...the more convinced I am that it's a bad and damaging programme.....

Yes, gifted children must be encouraged to achieve...but in a good and healthy way...x

I felt sorry for the little girl who cried and asked if she could please go now, her mum was nice with her. Some of the parents made me want to poke them in the eye, that awful mother who insisted it was purely her "nurturing" and not his natural ability that had got her son where he was.
