Today is the 20th anniversary of Diana's untimely death.

At the time, I was really puzzled by the huge outpouring of grief here in Britain. But now, all these years later, I now realise how important she was in so many peoples lives.

Not sure what else to say, but I just wanted to mark this day.

I'd just got up with my baby at about 5am and turned the TV on. I got a bit emotional but that could have been hormones. I was no great fan but I did understand her appeal and I'm glad she was so well loved worldwide.

was a sad day..but life goes on...
Times change mikey..........at one time people needed someone to look up to, respect, different from the rest of us, a sort of God -like figure, but now they want someone who "relates to us" is "one of us, rolls their sleeves up with us", .......gets stuck in.......the modern attitude to life.
She was one of "them".....the "Peoples Princess"....does nothing for sqad.

No Sqad, I didn't think it would, and to be honest, it didn't much for me 20 years ago.

But now, seeing how those two lads have turned out, I realise what a wonderful Mum she must have been. She was seen as breath of fresh air in the Royal Family, which was badly needed at the time. Much as I admire Betty, I can't see her taking the lads around to visit AIDS victims late at night

Her influence will live on for many, many years yet.
times ..they are a changing... think the introduction of a "real" person at that time saved a sinking monarchy and Wills and Harry continue in that vein...
I was thinking of asking what were you doing when you heard the news, I will always remember for the most pathetic of reasons - I was already up in the night and crying because of some $hit man when the news came on the TV. I felt even worse.

I was up very early that morning, and as soon as I turned Radio Four on, I heard the news. It didn't seem right at the time, and it did take a few mins. for the news to sink in.
It was about 6.30 a.m and i was in the car driving to the health club.......I always swam before work.
murray......I see "real people" every bloody day...I want something different.

I was in Durham..put telly on and could not understand why they were talking as if she was dead..... signed book of condolence in Durham...

Sqad.. I'm on my way..well folks have said "you're no real " so guess I fit the bill ! ;0) xx
am i the only person who is fed up seeing progs and reading about her death ,yes people liked her but enough is enough .
hopefully this whole saga will be put to rest after this year
Came downstairs, switched tv on at 7am and couldn't believe my ears or eyes.

I wonder if the mass out-pouring of grief was anger at the Monarchy for the way they were portrayed in the media about their perceived callousness.
Am I the only one tired of all this in the news recently??

yes, it was shocking at the time, yes it was a horrible tragedy at the time, especially for her sons, but c'mon....move on (news) people!
totally agree with mallyh
Mally, what's the betting that in 5 years time, someone will post a thread saying, it's 25 years since we lost her and the Princes aren't saying a word, that's disgraceful!
:-D
I think it's just the 20 year anniversary. It'll settle down after today.
Question Author
Mallyh....I would have expected this to happen, after 20 years. I also expect it will happen again in another 10 years time.
I was up early and was driving my 2 dogs to the park, they were playing classical music on the radio which I thought was strange.

Then the DJ interrupted and gave the news. Walked around the park in a daze, couldn't quite believe it.
but it's not just today ,nearly everyday for the last 20years there has been something about her in the papers etc .I know this makes me look uncaring( i'm not) but it is just to much .
I feel for her sons, having to mark this day with the world's eyes on them. For the rest of us, time to move on.

I remember hearing the news of her death. I was never a fan of Diana's, but I felt incredibly sad, even before I'd seen all the wailing and sea of flowers.
