Remarkable programmes, shame we are killing our oceans with so much waste

from what people chuck into the rivers, off cruise ships, which gets dumped into the oceans, that was a snippet off the programme, countries who have no sanitation, a million different ways.

Tilly....lots of countries are not as assiduous about recycling as others.

The program also said how much of this plastic is in the form of tiny little beads, in things like face creams

Like I said it has to be a global effort and there are many countries around the world that don't seem to care about where waste goes or maybe they feel they have more important things to concentrate on such as poverty etc.

I do my bit by buying fruit from the market and meat from the butchers.

My pet hate is net plastic bags full of oranges or whatever. I will not buy anything that is sold in a net.

Emmie on any cruise I've been on, there are strict rules about not throwing things overboard.

I recycle all my plastic stuff, from yogurt and butter container, to milk.

But does anybody know what the Councils do with this stuff ? They must pass it on to other companies.

I presume its made into more of the same ?

we have no way to recycle our plastic, as we have communal bins and no one takes plastic, so it all goes into one large container. dumped into landfill presumably,

Emmie.....it would be an unusual Council, that doesn't have some kind of kerb-side recycling surely ?

We've green bins for plastics, cartons and stuff Mikey's described and blue for paper, boxes etc. And a food waste bin.

One of the worst things is bottled water. Loads of plastic bottles to add to the pollution of the planet. We never used to have bottled water and there is certainly nothing wrong with our tap water. I drink it all the time. Would never buy bottled.

Always thought that recycling isn't the answer. Whats needed is to stop using so much plastic. Glad the 5p carrier bag charge came out, it reduced the amount of plastic bags been given out. Charge 50p I say and reduce it further. And WHY do drinks always seem to come in plastic bottles? Whats wrong with reusable glass bottles?

We never used to have all this plastic. Paper bags and glass bottles with money back on bottle. Charge far more for plastic carriers. We shouldn't be creating all this plastic waste in the first place. I, also, wonder about how much really gets recycled.

my feeling is that loads don't get recycled, just dumped into land fills, then loads gets washed down streams, rivers, out to the oceans of the world, its terrible and something must be done,

There is a company in Scotland which has invented a way to include waste plastic into making and repairing roads. There are several councils already using the process, a small step perhaps but at least in the right direction.
