The BBC male presenters pay difference compared to the women is absurd, now some of the men have been forced to take pay cuts, is that a good thing, or couldn't they have put those women who complained on a fairer footing.

Some of them negotiated good terms when money was in better supply.

The BBC is having to cut it's cloth differently now. If these big beasts, male or female, threaten nowadays to go to Sky, ITN or someone else then the door should be held open for them.
Is there any reason why Chris Evans isn't included in this list. I know he's a DJ but what else does he do that enables him to earn over £2m p.a?
Question Author
he's not included as far as i can tell. Chris Evans that is.

the disparity between the men's salary is remarkable, how can Jeremy Vine be on 700k or thereabouts, yet Jon Sopel, earn a fraction of that, don't get this either.

spa
its what they should have done, upped the salaries of women who do the same job.
Just reduce the pay so it is fairer. Nobody "earns" these ridiculous amounts of money just appearing on TV.
There will always be difference's in rates of pay - but as long as the basic rate is the same then that is OK
For example - I earn more at my grade than the bloke sitting next to me - but our basic rate is the same, but I have longer in the job and have had better reports hence I get paid more.
chris evans does not get 2m for his radio show alone
Jeremy Vine doesn't just do his Radio 2 programme. He also does EGGHEADS and is involved in General Election Results programmes.
Jeremy Vine certainly doesn't deserve such an extortionate salary.. He is the most annoying man and has ruined Eggheads. I do not understand how anybody thinks these people merit more money than surgeons or any other worthwhile profession.

Not true, they volunteered to take the cuts.

Because they are paid according to how big an audience they can attract.
Once again, we seem to be falling into the trap of comparing entertainment wages with everyday wages. The BBC has to compete with commercial stations to keep its presenters. It’s called free enterprise and is one of the cornerstones of how our economy works.
Question Author
all i know is there is this disparity for doing the same job between male/female presenters, which doesn't seem right to me at all.
Me neither. As long as it is the same job.
