Just watched his programme from last night. It was all about the Forest of Dean. It felt quite strange watching a programme from my home town but so interesting. He was mainly following the wild boar and their hoglets.
At one point he was almost crowing about the superb photos he was taking with his new super duper camera. Then he was quite embarrassed because he had forgotten to press the record button. He had no photos!
He did set up a fixed camera to record when the boar returned. He had some really good photos then.
Really enjoyed the programme.

Have seen all of these programmes. There was one a couple of weeks ago with long tailed tit and dormice.
He really cares for wildlife, too. Which is great.

I find him an excellent presenter and comes across very well, we are all human and make errors

Have you got a 'Forest of Dean' accent, Caran, as in The Singing Detective? I seem to remember them saying 'my butty' as a term of endearment....

Definitely not got a Forest of Dean accent. I am an incomer. I originate from Manchester so you can guess my accent!

I watched the episode with the Bitterns, he really enthuses about his topics.

It is great when your home town is featured on TV.

You accent isn't as broad as mine Caran :-)

Had lunch once at the café/restaurant he runs (ran?) near to River Cottage , just an ordinary place, not extortionate prices. Odd tables and chairs, local folk serving on and cooking, very down to earth - a really interesting and thought-provoking selection of food though and it was very good. Thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Hugh and the other chap made me think off two little boys playing cops and robbers or cowboys and Indians, creeping about in the undergrowth, but overall its a very good programme, nice to see British wild life instead of tigers and elephants for a change.

That's what he reminded me of too. He loves doing that programme.
We went to his place many years ago. Very interesting and as you say excellent food.
Mamya people still notice my accent even though I left Manchester in the mid seventies.

I've never moved around so mine is as strong as ever, had someone in stitches on the phone today as I suddenly lurched into Lanky speak at a rate of knots.

Mamya I was in a supermarket, I think Aldi and checkout girl said I recognise that accent, I said I recognise yours too. You are from Bolton, she agreed. She said she knew mine was north but it has watered down a bit.
