Does anyone else get annoyed when a quiz contestant says they don't know something because of their age? Young woman on Chase just said that "Margaret Thatcher was out of office by the time I was born, I don't know these things" Grrr!!

No....why should anyone born in the Seventies know anything about (say) The Beatles, World War 1 and 2, Churchill, Hitler etc? All useless history, surely?

I was born in the seventies so I know about Thatcher. I know about Churchill because of the war. Otherwise I know very little. It's not a subject I find interesting.

I know more about politicians by watching Spitting Image.

I get really annoyed on the Chase occasionally when the rest of the team have generally gone down the middle and then some bottleless last contestant choose to play for £1 so they can share the pot. That is spineless, but yeah I think we can all learn enough about enough things so we have a smattering of basic understanding of where we are in the world, why we are in the world, how we arrived here historically and where we are going, irrespective of age. Something like that is just basic.

I take the point of those of you who say you don't know things, none of us can possibly know everything. Big difference is that I wouldn't put myself on a quiz show where I would be expected to not look a complete Muppet.

Kvalidir...totally agree. Hate the taking of the lower offer when they benefit but take from those who have done well in getting the money. Awful IMO and just greedy. I'd be so annoyed if it were me. When those who do it on the prog I just hope they lose and disappear. Not playing the game IMO so never happy when I see that!

That's the point, horselady! I'd never go on any quiz show where I didn't think I had a reasonable chance of winning or, at the very least, not claiming that I couldn't possibly know something simply because it happened outside my lifetime!
