It is poverty that drives this thinking and behaviour.
One wonders where governments priorities lay.
India on the one hand gets aid and benefits from us and probably other countries to help alleviate poverty and suffering yet it spends vast amounts of money on a space programme.
We should not be giving aid to a country that doesn't help its own population.

There are major cultural differences between Western Countries and these countries that are living effectively in a manner of a few centuries back here. This is why mutli culturism has so many problems here.
It's very difficult to get ones head round this if living in the West but at the same time I am not a believer in the West interfering in another Countries culture. Al we can do is try to talk, diplomatically, to their Governments but remember they too are very limited as these centuries old practices are still in abundance especially in remote villages etc and those people are not about to change.

/// They need education, especially girls. We westerners should do all we can to give those girls an education. This barbaric practice would come to an end. ///
It is not the girls who are committing these atrocities, how would giving these girls an education put an end to this vile practice? The poor baby girls are slaughtered before they can receive an education.

I read it as the girls giving birth, as opposed to the babies.
But I don’t think educating women in Pakistan will work. It’s a societal issue, something that China went through a few years ago (none of us will forget that video of Wáng Yu, right?).
In countries which have population issues and where boys are valued more than girls, these horrors will continue to happen. God only knows what the answer is.
