Death & Intestacy In The Uk
A cousin, (her mother and mine were half-sisters), who lived in the UK has recently died and it is understood that she has not left a Will. Via information I provided to "tracing agents," closer next-of-kin, (and possible beneficiaries of her estate), have been identified and contacted. They live outside the UK.
My cousin lived alone (i.e. never married or had children) and her death was sudden/unexpected. The local authority arranged her funeral and it appears that solicitors have now been instructed to handle her affairs. I realise that I have no legal/beneficial interest in the matter but I would like, if possible, answers to a couple of questions:-
1. Who gets to decide where her ashes are to be interred?
2. If she kept photographs of herself and other members of her family, would I be allowed to have one or two - or even just copies, to remember her by? Other relatives on my side of the family would also like a copy of any pictures. How would I go about making a request for this?
